AEW star Darby Allin recently sat down with RJ City on the “Hey! (EW)” show and finally set the record straight on his infamous appearance on the TLC reality show, “Sex Sent Me to the ER.” Years before he became a multi-time TNT Champion in AEW, Allin was the subject of a segment on the show which detailed a ridiculous story of him being stung by bees on his buttocks while having sex with his girlfriend. In his new interview, Allin revealed that the entire story was a fabrication that he came up with, and he was “absolutely” not bothered by breaking kayfabe to do it.
Allin, who is known for his authentic and unfiltered persona, gleefully recounted the absurd story of how the appearance came to be.
“Honestly, they paid me $600 to fly out to LA and film it. And I met the lady on Craigslist an hour before I did it. And we met up at a coffee shop and said, ‘We have to get our story straight so they think it’s real.’ Because the people actually thought it was real.”
When asked if he still keeps in touch with the woman from the segment, Allin confirmed that their meeting was a one-time thing.
“No. That was the only time I saw her.”
He also revealed that the outlandish storyline was his own creation, as he just “thought it would be funnier” that way. The story is a classic example of the “hustle” that many independent wrestlers have to go through to make money while chasing their dream. Allin has since become one of AEW’s biggest stars, recently defeating his long-time rival Jon Moxley in a brutal “I Quit” match at the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
