AEW star Eddie Kingston recently explained the method behind his madness when it comes to his unfiltered call-outs of NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. During a new interview on Busted Open Radio, “The Mad King” was discussing his career and, in a casual aside, referred to the decorated technical wrestler as a “bitch.”
When asked by Bully Ray to elaborate on the trash talk, Kingston explained that his insults are not personal but are, in fact, a deliberate tactic to get a dream match booked.
“I wanna fight him. I’ve been dying to fight him, so the only way I can actually fight him is by talking enough s**t where somebody will book it. That’s really it. There’s no personal thing.”
Kingston did admit, however, that his desire to fight Sabre Jr. is fueled by the NJPW star’s in-ring persona.
“There’s some things I see that he does. ’cause I don’t know him, I don’t talk to him. But there’s certain things I see that he does, and I’m like, ‘Oh, you’re a pompous little fuck. Oh okay, I would love to smack the st outta you.’ So that’s where that comes from. There’s nothing personal. I just see st that he does and I want to rock him a little bit.”
Kingston, who is currently teamed up with HOOK on AEW programming, also reflected on how his AEW run has “spiritually” changed him, making him finally “believe what people were telling me for all these years.”
