MJF doesn’t think AEW’s current momentum has anything to do with fresh talent or a competitive locker room. As far as he’s concerned, it starts and ends with him.
Speaking with Baby Huey on 107.7 The Bone ahead of his Texas Death Match against Hangman Page at AEW Revolution, the AEW World Champion made his position crystal clear on why the promotion is thriving. “Because I’m the champion. Every single time I’ve had the championship belt in the history of this company, ratings have gone up, and ticket sales have gone up, and pay-per-view buys have gone up. These aren’t feelings. These are facts.” He went further: “I’ve been the feeling the whole entire time. I’m the feeling. I’m the main character. I’m the franchise.”
MJF on Swerve Strickland and the Stacked AEW Upper Card
MJF acknowledged the depth surrounding him at the top of the AEW card — crediting Swerve Strickland, Kenny Omega, Andrade El Idolo, Konosuke Takeshita, and Kevin Knight — but made sure his point landed. “Swerve is incredibly talented… All that to say, he can’t beat me. In what reality could he beat me? The answer is none.” He compared his spot to wrestling’s all-time greats: “Not everybody had a chance to wrestle Flair. Not everybody had a chance to wrestle Hogan. Not everybody had a chance to wrestle Cena. When you’re a tippy top guy, you tend to only wrestle tippy top guys.”
On the state of AEW’s locker room, MJF credited the improved atmosphere to the absence of what he called bad actors. “Camaraderie is up, locker room’s up, everybody is coming together to try to beat the hell out of me. And sometimes the best way to form camaraderie is by hating somebody universally.” MJF defends his title against Hangman Page in the Revolution main event tonight at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
