AEW filed a trademark for the name “Continental Cup” on March 16, covering a broad range of professional wrestling entertainment services including live performances, television production, and program distribution. While the company has made no official announcement about the concept, the name’s connection to the existing Continental brand makes the direction fairly clear.
AEW runs the Continental Classic tournament annually toward the end of the calendar year, with the winner being crowned AEW Continental Champion. Jon Moxley currently holds the title after winning the most recent tournament at AEW Worlds End.
Continental Cup Could Expand the Brand Beyond Its Year-End Tournament Format
A “Continental Cup” could function as a separate companion event to the Classic, potentially running at a different time of year or under a different competitive format. Trademark filings don’t always lead directly to on-air products, but combined with the strength of the Continental brand and Moxley’s high-profile title reign, the timing suggests AEW is actively building out this corner of its programming.
