The professional wrestling community is mourning the loss of a true innovator in tag team competition. Dennis Condrey, a founding member of the legendary Midnight Express, has passed away at the age of 74. Condrey is widely regarded as a pioneer whose work alongside Bobby Eaton and manager Jim Cornette set the standard for team-based wrestling during the territory era.
A Legacy of Excellence and Human Kindness
Condrey’s career spanned nearly four decades, beginning with his debut in 1973. He showcased his craft in prominent territories such as the AWA, NWA, Mid South, and Jim Crockett Promotions before retiring from the industry in 2011. Following the news of his passing, AEW star Dax Harwood took the lead in supporting Condrey’s family by launching a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral costs and outstanding bills for Condrey’s wife, Theresa.
In a heartfelt tribute, Harwood emphasized that Condrey’s character outside the ring was just as impressive as his talent inside of it. “Dennis Condrey is one half of the greatest tag team of all time, The Midnight Express,” Harwood wrote. “However, as great as he was in the ring, it doesn’t hold a candle to the human being he was. A sweet, God-fearing man who LOVED his wife Theresa.”
