Kenny Omega has revealed a behind-the-scenes moment that speaks to where his relationship with Cody Rhodes stands today. In a new video with Fall Damage, Omega shared that one of the first things he did when it was announced that Rhodes would play Guile in the new Street Fighter movie was reach out to his former colleague personally with a message of congratulation — and genuine self-reflection.
“I remember one of the first things I did when it was being released was I saw that Cody was going to play Guile. I gave him a message and I said, ‘Hey, Codes — I just want to say congrats. And I know the old me would have been just fuming. He would have been jealous. He would have been upset that you got this role, but I’m just excited and happy for you,'” Omega said. He also revealed his own Street Fighter ambitions. “If there is a Street Fighter 2, then absolutely, I’d love to play Alex, but I would need to know in advance because I would have to do something about packing on like 50 to 60 pounds of lean muscle mass.”
Kenny Omega on His Sephiroth Entrance at Wrestle Kingdom 18 and His Favorite Wrestling Video Game
Omega also opened up about his love of video games during the Fall Damage interview. He credited Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII as a major influence on his entrance at Wrestle Kingdom 18, where he came out to a rendition of One-Winged Angel. “I take a lot of nods and inspiration from video game characters, and Sephiroth has always been one of my most favorite villains in all of video game history.” He named Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 as the best wrestling game ever made, citing both its roster and its mechanical depth, while also reflecting on AEW‘s previous video game project and his desire to have given the original Aki Engine director more creative control.
