WWE has filed a new trademark for “SmackDown” to be used on championship title belts.
The application was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on September 18 under the description “Trophies made primarily of common metal for use as awards, namely, championship trophy belts.” WWE has not said why it filed the new application. The company has been attempting to trademark “SmackDown” for belts and merchandise since 2022, but that original application has not yet been registered, and WWE only filed a statement of use for it on September 18, 2026.
WWE previously used brand-specific branding on its women’s and tag team titles from 2016 to 2023. The women’s titles were rebranded as the WWE Women’s Championship and WWE Women’s World Championship in 2023, and the tag team titles became the WWE Tag Team Championship and World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XL in 2024.
WWE also sells SmackDown-branded replica title belts through WWE Shop, which the filing could cover.
