Jeff Jarrett says Jerry Jarrett made sure getting into wrestling was not easy for his son.
On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett responded to Steven Borden saying on Close Up with Renee Paquette that he was pushed away from wrestling growing up, and that his father Sting wanted something different for him.
“I’m one of five kids. My dad, I’m the only one in the business, only one out of the five that made this business my career. Third generation, I loved it.”
Jarrett said his father’s approach came from seeing Nick Gulas and his son George in the business.
“He went out of his way to make it as difficult as he possibly could, out of love.”
“By him being my son, he gets a name. He gets opportunities for bookings that he wouldn’t have… And so, if he’s going to get in, old man selfishly and unselfishly said, ‘I’m going to make sure he really loves this business. He really wants this business.'”
Jarrett said he understands why Sting went the other way.
“Sting knew not only how difficult it is to have a career, but a successful career.”
He added that Borden is walking into a tough spot, and that there is only one way forward.
“Nothing replaces it. Nothing ever has or ever will. Reps upon reps is the pathway to success.”
