Jeff Jarrett says the conversation that led to his WCW debut took about 15 minutes.
Jarrett made his WCW debut on Nitro in Savannah, Georgia in October 1996. He arrived in a black limousine during the nWo storyline and beat Hugh Morrus with the figure four.
On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett said he signed a three-year deal with the WWF in October 1993 and reached out to people in WCW as it was ending. He said J.J. Dillon likely connected him with Eric Bischoff.
“I had a conversation with Eric that lasted, Conrad, all of 15 minutes, 10 minutes. I mean, it was quick… Hey, man, we like going on. Love to have you,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett said Kevin Sullivan then walked him through the plan.
“Kevin’s vision was the Jeff Jarrett, Ric Flair, Four Horsemen storyline that he had high hopes for, really loved it, thought we can create a lot of intrigue with it.”
He said the limousine played off the nWo invasion.
“It was a natural hook baked in. Who’s in the limo? Who’s in the limo? Who’s in the limo?” Jarrett said. “So that’s why I took the black jacket and wore that, because nWo was black and white.”
Jarrett said he does not think being part of the nWo would have worked for him.
“I just think my persona, my character would have been covered up big time.”
He said the program with Flair could have changed his career.
“If me and Ric would have ever got to work the program that Kevin Sullivan had in his mind and laid out… that could have been career defining, game changing, gone to another kind of level earlier in my career,” Jarrett said. “It just never got to fruition. But man, oh man, we were headed in the right direction.”
