Adam Copeland took the Clockwork Carnage spot originally planned for Jay White, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Copeland qualified for the match by beating Josh Alexander on the October 14 Dynamite and Collision special. Clockwork Carnage takes place at AEW WrestleDream on October 17, with Will Ospreay defending the AEW World Championship.
“Jay White was originally going to be in it but he got hurt, and Adam Copeland was not going to be in it,” Meltzer said.
Meltzer said Copeland and Christian Cage were going to be a tag team, but AEW moved Copeland into the match after Cage was injured.
“So I guess Jay White would have been in the spot that Adam Copeland took. That’s what it looked like to me.”
Bryan Alvarez also said Copeland took White’s place.
White was injured in the Tailgate Brawl on the AEW All Out pre-show on September 26. Tony Schiavone later announced the injury on Collision. Ace Austin replaced White in a qualifying match against Ricochet, which Ricochet won.
