AEW President Tony Khan recently shared a striking anecdote illustrating Darby Allin’s extreme commitment and fearless approach to his character, particularly during his early AEW feuds. Khan recalled a specific pitch from Allin that involved him legitimately being hit by a car as part of a storyline.
Speaking on the “Superstar Crossover” podcast, Khan discussed Allin’s mindset. “Darby is a very unique person, a very special wrestler,” Khan began, before detailing the audacious stunt Allin proposed. “One time, he had a feud and he came to me, and he had all these ideas, and one of them was, ‘What if you had a car, and I let the car hit me?’ I was like, ‘What?!’ He was like, ‘Yeah, it’d be great!'”
Khan elaborated on his reaction to the dangerous suggestion: “I’m like, ‘Darby, we can’t have you get hit by a car! What are you talking about?’ He had all these crazy ideas. That was maybe the craziest of them all.” While that specific idea was not approved, Khan noted it exemplifies Allin’s dedication, stating, “But he does a lot of crazy stuff, and he is a super-charismatic, very exciting wrestler.”
