AEW and the 2300 Arena honored ECW legend and current AEW commentator Taz on Wednesday night, but the tribute happened in a different venue than originally planned. While the ceremony for his induction into the 2300 Arena’s Hardcore Hall of Fame was initially scheduled to take place on AEW Dynamite, the segment was moved to a live video on social media an hour before the show began, at the request of Taz himself.
In an eight-minute live video with AEW President Tony Khan, Taz reflected on the surprise induction announcement from the previous week and explained why he asked for the ceremony to be removed from the main television broadcast. He stated that he wanted the valuable television time to remain focused on the current roster of AEW talent who are performing on the show. Khan honored the request but made sure to note that Taz’s official Hardcore Hall of Fame banner was raised to the rafters of the 2300 Arena just before Dynamite went on the air, allowing the live Philadelphia crowd to be part of the special moment. During the social media tribute, both Khan and Taz took time to preview the card for that night’s episode of Dynamite, with Taz providing his expert analysis on the upcoming matches.
