Report: Update On Matt Sydal’s AEW Status

AEW

A new report from Fightful Select’s weekly Q&A has provided an update on the status of veteran high-flyer Matt Sydal, who has not been seen on AEW programming since May 2024. According to the report, Sydal is still under contract with All Elite Wrestling.

His lengthy absence is due to his recovery from ankle surgery, a procedure that was reportedly needed to fix an issue that has been nagging him for over a decade. Sydal’s last match in AEW was a loss to Konosuke Takeshita on an episode of Dynamite. His most recent match overall was in July 2025 for an independent promotion in France.

Sydal, a former WWE Tag Team Champion, first signed with AEW in November 2020 after debuting in the Casino Battle Royale at All Out earlier that year. It is unknown when he is expected to be cleared for an in-ring return.
