Contenders Series Announced for AEW Grand Slam Australia

AEW

The road to AEW Grand Slam Australia officially kicked off on the January 28 episode of Dynamite with a major announcement regarding the World Championship picture. The show opened with Kenny Omega defeating Rocky Romero to continue his momentum. Following the bout, Tony Schiavone joined Omega in the ring to reveal the formation of a “Contenders Series” involving Omega, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, and Andrade El Idolo.

The series will determine the two men who will clash at Grand Slam Australia in a number one contenders match, with the winner earning a shot at MJF’s AEW World Championship at Revolution in March. As part of this series, it was announced that Omega will face the winner of the night’s Andrade vs. Swerve Strickland bout on the February 4 episode of Dynamite. With Andrade advancing, the stage is set for a high-stakes clash next week.
