Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder) have become one of the most prominent power couples in professional wrestling. The duo, who are now both performing on the WWE SmackDown brand following Cardona’s return to TV this January, have been together for nine years. While it is widely believed that Cody Rhodes played matchmaker for the pair, Green recently set the record straight regarding the true origin of their relationship.
Brandi Rhodes Claims the Matchmaker Title
During a recent appearance on Brandi Rhodes’ YouTube show, A Shot of Brandi, the topic of how Green and Cardona met was brought up. Green quickly debunked the popular rumor that the Undisputed WWE Champion was responsible for their introduction.
“Let me go back. Cody did not set us up. Brandi set us up,” Green clarified emphatically.
Brandi happily corroborated the story, claiming full credit for the successful pairing. “It was a thousand percent me. Yes. He (Cody) was cheering it on,” Brandi laughed.
Green further explained that Cody couldn’t have set them up because he didn’t even know her personally at that point in time. She noted that Brandi knew her from sharing locker rooms and training together. Brandi then detailed her matchmaking process, explaining how she showed photos of each wrestler to the other, relaying their mutual compliments until they eventually connected and began dating.
