The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship match on the latest edition of Dynamite did not go according to the original script. During the February 25 episode, the challenging team of MegaBad, consisting of Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne, took on the reigning Babes of Wrath, Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale. Unfortunately, a legitimate medical issue derailed the bout.
On-the-Fly Adjustments Made During Live Broadcast
According to a report from Fightful Select, Penelope Ford sustained an injury during the contest that completely ruled her out of finishing the match. To protect the performers and manage the live television situation, an immediate audible was called midway through the action.
Rather than leaving Megan Bayne to fight as a villain in a disjointed two-on-one handicap scenario against the babyface champions, producers instructed MegaBad’s manager, Lena Kross, to run into the ring and cause an intentional disqualification. During the subsequent commercial break, medical personnel evaluated Ford at ringside and officially determined she could not continue. Additionally, Harley Cameron remained largely inactive on the apron after tagging out to adjust to the sudden changes.
Fightful Select noted that the mid-match audible was executed strictly to cover up the original creative plans following the injury. The wrestling news outlet is currently working to secure an update on Ford’s health status and the severity of the injury, as well as confirming which team was originally booked to walk away with the victory before the match was stopped. The sudden change also required the production team to make several immediate timing adjustments for the remainder of the Dynamite broadcast.
