Willow Nightingale is back on top. The CMLL Women’s World Championship was vacated after Stephanie Vaquer went to WWE.
Nightingale won the championship at NJPW-CMLL FantasticaMania on July 13, defeating Lluvia and Viva Van.
On the July 17th edition of CMLL Informa, Willow talked about the win.
“This morning, I woke up in San Jose, California. A few days ago, I was feeling defeated. I really thought that I had the Owen Hart Cup in the bag, a back-to-back win. I could have really used it after my best friend betrayed me, but no. Another letdown. But this morning, I woke up here, and not only did I wake up here, I was asked to be here and wrestle for CMLL and New Japan, two things that I really love to do. Not only that, I got the chance to compete for the CMLL Women’s Championship, and I walked away the winner because when it feels like nothing matters, you gotta find what matters to you, and you have to find your reason to smile. Today, on this beautiful day, this [title] has been my reason to smile. So I’ll go to TV, I’ll go to AEW, week in, week out, deal with whatever I gotta deal with when I’m there. But I’m not gonna shy away from the work. I’m not gonna shy away from the responsibility of an international champion. I do plan on showing up to Mexico, showing up to Mexico City, and not just performing for all of you lovely people, but doing what a champion does and winning,” Nightingale said.
